A Long Beach assistant fire chief will be taking the helm of the Palm Springs Fire Department, City Manager Scott Stiles announced on Friday. Paul Alvarado is expected to start his role as the new Palm Springs Fire Chief in early May. He started working as a firefighter and paramedic in Long Beach 27 years ago before becoming the assistant fire chief in 2018, the City of Palm Springs said in a release. He previously worked as a firefighter for the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Northrop Aircraft Division.
